Custard Shake / Drinking Custard



A very easy and tasty recipe which is ideal as a welcome drink or as a refreshing drink for iftaar. Custard powder is very easily available and cheap during this season which makes this drink a must try at all iftaar tables. Once done the drink looks like a shake with ice cream but check out the ingredient list and you ll find no ice cream... But you can name it an Ice cream shake and no one will find the difference.. Ingredients

  • Milk: 500 ml
  • Custard powder: 2 tablespoons
  • Sugar : Half cup
  • Vanilla essence: 5 ml ( Optional)
  • Ice cubes: 8 to 10
  • Apple: Half ( Finely cut and tossed with 1/4 spoon sugar so that the apple does not turn black)
  • Badam and Raisins to garnish
  • Black Kas Kas seeds : 2 tsp

Method

  1. Soak the kas kas seed in half cup water
  2. Add the milk to a sauce pan and begin to boil. 
  3. While the milk is boiling add the custard powder to a small bowl and mix with 1/4 cup water and a make a lump free liquid
  4. Before milk is completely boiling add this custard mix and cook on low flame for 5 mins
  5. The custard will be thickened by the time. Now add the vanilla essence, if preferred
  6. Allow to cool and refrigerate for 3 to 4 hours
  7. Once cooled add the custard to a blender along with the ice cubes and blend well until frothy.  (3 to 4 minutes)
  8. Transfer to a jug and add the sliced apple and kas kas and mix well with a spoon
  9. Keep refrigerated until serving. While serving pour in a glass and top it with the badam and raisins.

Note: You can use any essence or colour to change the flavour and colour of this drink, however vanilla, rose essence and strawberry goes best with the custard flavour.
